But probably not a Hattori Hanzo sword

.
Hmmm.. a Johns Hopkins student killed an intruder with a Samurai sword:

Judging by the damage he inflicted (severed hand, fatal slash to torso), I bet the sword was a real cutter, not a cheap wall hanger purchased from the asian gift shop at the mall.

I bet the student was extra pissed because of the theft of his PlayStation the day before: http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/baltimore-city/bal-sword0915,0,4027961.story

This article says he took an ear off too: http://www.abc2news.com/mostpopular/story/Hopkins-Student-Uses-Sword-to-Kill-Intruder/-O5uBdWODkOMsx4zLpTS2A.cspx

"The burglar tried to grab the student. But the student swung the sword, cutting off the suspect's ear and hand. The suspect bled out and died at the scene."

I kind of doubt the DA will choose to charge the student with anything. There's too much public sentiment on the side of a person defending his home against an intruder with a criminal record. That may not stop the dead guy's family from pursuing some kind of wrongful death suit against the student though.
