spooky

it was around midnight last night ... the doorbell rang. i wandered out to the kitchen where the intercom viewer thingy is, and i saw someone was standing there, but couldn't see who. i tried to look out the window, but i didn't want them to see me, just in case it was someone trying to break in. i decided to ignore it; maybe it was somebody drunk and ringing the wrong apartment. as i walked back to my room, the doorbell rang two more times.

this time there was nobody standing in front of the viewer, because after they rang the bell, they started walking towards the other door. it was two policemen.

i went to the open window near our front door, and lifted the shade, to talk to them. they'd gotten a call that someone was locked in the basement apartment at our address. i was confused. it's only me and johanna. johanna's room is the in basement. i explained that the basement apartment is part of my apartment and that my roommate lives down there. i told them to hold on ...

i walked downstairs, and johanna's door was closed. i was afraid to walk in! i took my phone and called her ... she had her phone on vibrate, but she heard it anyway, and i asked if she was okay and if she would come out of her room to talk ...

i explained about the police outside, and she came upstairs with me. we let the police in ... they seemed official. we even heard the dispatcher relay information about the call again ...

a woman had called from a cell phone. the call was even traced back to a local tower in our area, meaning the call was made from somewhere around here. she said she was locked in the basement apartment, and gave our exact address. the police were trying to call the number back, but it wasn't going through.

the police came in, walked downstairs, went into the hall downstairs, rang the bell of the apartment next door to ours. nobody answered. they left.

it was the weirdest thing ever. too many crime investigation tv shows made all kinds of thoughts run through my head. johanna and i had to sit for about 10 minutes after the police left, just to let the adrenaline rush subside.

now we wish we'd gotten a contact number for the men who stopped by so that we could find out what happened...
