i am fuming over a facebook comment. to the point that i'm thinking about deleting my friend of 10+ years because he's being a thick headed idiot.
for me, anything pertaining to breed specific legislation will start up a heated discussion. it is something i have strong views on, and this is the second time he's expressed his (uneducated) opinion.
in short, yesterday my neighbors dog ran into my yard, charged me barking and attempted to bite me. the thing is, it's a little tiny pomeranian. it infuriates me that people with small dogs are allowed to get away with shit like that because if somebody with a large breed dog did that, their dog would be taken away. i expressed those views in a status update, adding that if the dog comes into my yard and attempts to bite my son i will kill it.
his response?
" i've said it before and i'll say it again. a tea cup poodle or yorkie or any small dog would be lucky to break skin. if a pit bull were to bite you, you'll end up with broken bones or worse. i understand the small turd dogs are annoying but we should keep things in perspective pertaining to the dangers of different dog breeds."
i get it. if an irresponsible pet owner lets their pit bull bite somebody, it would be a more serious bite than a small dog. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN PEOPLE WHO OWN SMALL BREEDS SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH THESE THINGS. it isn't about the breed. it's about owners being idiots.
my dogs are insured. i can't legally have them without it. they have to be walked by persons over 18 years of age, on a leash no longer than 4 feet. i don't like these rules, but i am responsible and abide by them because i care about my dogs. i care about the breed. and what happens? when i'm out walking my leashed insured dogs, other peoples little yorkies and beagles come running up to my dogs challenging them. because those small dog owners don't have to have insurance, don't have BSL to deal with, so they are lenient with their dogs training, reprimanding, whatever.
i am pissed off damnit!
