Education?

It was suggested I post.

So today it was about: How do we propose to the guardians of the kid who keeps his meds in his cheek and spits them out when no one is looking that he should go to long-term treatment? He's assaulted more than one kid. We can't allow that. We, as a school, can't pay for his treatment. It might be years. We can't kick him out. To where? We don't have a teacher who can sit with him all day. The aide isn't trained as a teacher. He's fucked up. Not his fault. Long story. Not a nice one.

And then there was: How do we deal with the nine kids (middle school) who stole dust remover spray and huffed it? Who is responsible to teach them about addiction? About huffing? About alternatives? About sadness and escaping and suppressing anger and unsuppressing it?

And then there was: the kid who's 14 and can't subtract 3 from 8. Even using his fingers. And he's quite bright and reads well. What's up with that?

And then there was: The kid who got bullied and wants to switch classes so he's not with either the bullies or the kids he's tempted to bully.

And then there were the ones who are really really fucked up (yes, more than those other ones) who haven't been in school for a few days/weeks and we don't know if they're lying to their parents and playing hooky or hiding bruises or out of town cuz the family decided to go do something that seemed important at the time and didn't manage to get back for a while.

And then there are the classes. And the paperwork.

It's not just about quadratic equations and dates of revolutions and where to put the semi-colon, you know?

No trick-or-treaters. Recovering from walking pneumonia. Tomorrow the kids present on Occupy and Unoccupy. They got lots of pictures.

Bed.
