2008

Another year gone. We threw it a decent goodbye party at our place with our friends. L was abroad with her family and couldn't come but the rest of the usual suspects were present.

A and A2 arrived after work around four and S later in the evening with their cat, having finish her homework (deadline January 2, woot). We ate, played with the cat, watched some TV and simply hung about but mostly we played Alias.

It was great fun once again. I described "file" as "that thing you use to remove the serial number from a gun", which got a laugh from everyone. Too much CSI? Moi? It's amazing what spending so much time together does to people in the way of getting them on the same wavelength. N totally got me.

Another memorable explanation took place during a round when everyone is allowed to guess, so you have to explain the word in a way only your partner will understand. For this particular round S was paired with me and N with A. I picked up the card, looked at the word and sighed. I commented out loud something like "Perfect, these two will guess this immediately". S looked a bit defeated, rolled her eyes and said "Tank". You would not believe the hollering that ensued when it turned out to be the correct word. One of the most perfect clues ever given, I reckon ^^

The boys did get back at us, however, and in the sneakiest way possible. It was another "robbery round", and this time it was N's turn to explain the word. He asked whether A had ever watched the Simpsons, and upon receiving an affirmative answer, yelled "An Irish instrument?" To which A immediately replied with "Bagpipes!"

Remarkable what you can accomplish with shared ignorance (Re: the United States).

Scottish, you idiots! Groundkeeper Willie is Scottish! The Irish play the harp.
