gimme all your poison

So last night I went to that My Chemical Romance concert I mentioned a while ago. I didn’t listen to any of their songs beforehand and I was half-expecting to be sort of bored but was delightfully surprised instead.

Gerard has a great stage presence and it was impossible to not be swept along with the crowd's enthusiasm. The arena was about half-empty (which was really sad, Helsinki being the last stop on the European leg of their World Contamination Tour) but the people who were there were totally into it.

It was fun spotting the crowd favourites based on the way the noise levels skyrocketed at the first beats of certain songs. Na Na Na and Thank You for the Venom had everyone screaming and jumping, and even I was caught by the energy. I liked I’m Not Okay and Mama as well, and Welcome to the Black Parade is apparently pretty epic. Before the encore Gerard sang Cancer alone, accompanied by just a simple guitar, and he was pretty breath-taking.

Look at me quoting all these song names to you just like that. I had to Google every single one based on the quick notes I scribbled on my iPhone :P

In conclusion, I don't regret my impulse buy at all. Listening to the songs on Spotify again, I'm not sure still like the way Gerard sings on record, but live they work amazingly well. Plus it's great to put some sort of faces to the people I've been reading about. For some reason their haircuts really stood out to me? Frank's was amazing, just the kind of emo floppy I'm weirdly drawn to. Mikey looked odd with short hair, despite me never seeing him with any hair (at least that I know/remember of) but in everything I've read he always has long hair. Ray's was just as reality-defying I'd read about.

Also, Mikey and Frank must have incredible thigh muscles, considering how much of their stage-time they spent playing curled over them. *g*
