I had a *really* lengthy, hand-written entry about people who take fandom too seriously all set to post to my lj, but then I felt a little less irritated after writing said entry down on paper. Then I read the stop having fun guys, serious business, fan dumb, and fan wank entries on TV Tropes and realized that just because someone has a minor freak out over other people writing fanfic in the "wrong" manner doesn't mean I have to take such issue with people who like to play the role of watchdog for a particular fandom (shit, I guess even getting angry over someone else's comments is serious business sometimes). In spite of how picky I am when it comes to reading fic, I guess I've just never taken it so seriously that I'd go through the trouble of bashing a person over the head with insulting comments that offer nothing the way of helpful suggestions, to the point where the offending author feels compelled to stop working on that fic or stop writing altogether. In short, the notion of DO IT "RIGHT" OR GTFO OF MY FANDOM has never sat well with me. Whatever.
By the way, the aforementioned mini-rant was not in any way directed at anyone on my flist; it was triggered by another incident that happened some time ago and didn't even involve me. If you happen to see yourself in the above, please don't take it personally.
