Loved the Escher exhibit...

My niece and I drove to the San Jose area today and ran several errands. We were able to touch base with whytraven for lunch, then the M. C. Escher Exhibit at the San Jose Museum of Art. It was so enjoyable. There were four rooms: the first was early woodcuts that were based on Genesis verses. The next two rooms were very familiar examples of his work, slightly disappointingly so. His preparatory studies were illuminating to how he did his work, and the examples of some of his 'straight' landscape studies were new to me. Otherwise, everything shown were items I'd owned posters or postcards of at some time or other. The fourth room was my favorite though. It featured reflections of a tree in a puddle; the reflections were distorted by ripples of rain in the puddle. These were amazing.

We finished off with a mini-Snarfari, at least until my feet gave out. *grin*

For friends in the San Jose bay area, the exhibit continues through the 22nd of April. Additional exhibits include some fascinating Op Art pieces and a specialized architectural photography collection. (I don't think any of our group were impressed with this one, but it may have been over our heads.)
