Another raining and freezing day in Oxford...
Last night we had to dress up again and stand outside for the "garden party" in the cold rain, sipping orange juice from wine glasses. Fortunately, we eventually moved inside to the dining hall. After opening with a Latin prayer, we proceeded to have a FIVE course meal, which included Sea Bass and some kind of guinea fowl. Fortunately, most of it tasted like chicken, and as always, the dessert was great. A dry witted Brit stood up at the end of dinner to say a few words about the 4th of July. He was really funny. He talked about the similarities and differences between Americans and Brits and notes how often we like to take showers. One similiarity he did note: neither of us are French. He was hilarious, and it was all done in good fun.
Today was the first day of classes. I absolutely love both of my classes and my professors. My Tolkein teacher is such a nerd for Tolkein, and gets so carried away. This friday, for my children's fantasy class, we are going on a walking Alice and Wonderland tour around Oxford. I found out that we will get to visit the grave of Tolkein for my Middle Earth class! There are a lot of papers involved for both, but I will survive, and I am deeply interested in the topics. I am such a nerd.
I'm finally getting used to Oxford life. So, I thought I might share my surroundings with you.
