In which I embody my nerdiness.

After True Blood came out and I realized that the setting took place in rural North Louisiana, with many adventures in to my hometown of Shreveport, I was intrigued. The show is good (even though the southern accents are very bad). So I decided to pick up the books the show is based on and give them a whirl.

I quickly devoured all 10 books, all the while laughing and going "Hey Mark! She just talked about the Strand Theatre in downtown Shreveport! Hey Mark! She just mentioned Centenary!" The books are a lot funnier than the show, and the local twist made me love them instantly.

So I was browsing the Internet one day and decided to check out the author's website. And lo and behold, I discovered that she had a book signing scheduled in one of the setting cities of her book - Shreveport! I squealed and said, "Hey Mark, I'm going to this, OMG." To which my sweet husband actually volunteered to accompany me.

The signing was tonight and the book store was packed. We got bracelets with numbers when we walked in the door.

Charlaine Harris came out at 7:00 and took questions on her books and stories and experience as a writer. Her new book comes out in May and she has a contract to write three more after that. She was nice and homey and was thrilled at all the fans.

It was a loooong wait to meet her and get my book signed. Mark patiently read every single woodworking magazine in Barnes and Noble. I got a good start on Neil Gaiman's American Gods. We had dinner in the Starbucks bistro and ran into an old high school friend. Finally, after about two hours they called my number and I scurried into line.

They took my name, handed over my book, and then gave it to Charlaine. I was a giddy little kid. I gushed about how I love all her Shreveport references and how I also saw The Producers at The Strand like Sookie and how I love that she talked about Ralph and Kacoos (a local restaurant) in there. She smiled and said, "Yep, I just had to put that in there. And I've been to the Strand loads of times, seen The Nutcracker and the Chinese Acrobats." And then she handed me my book back, I thanked her, and we walked out.

Here's my signed copy!
