Andy Kaufman embodies all that is great. Here he is giving James Brown a run for his money:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSYV-nEE300 The interesting thing about Andy Kaufman is that he’s an original. He’s the first Borat, one of the first ever non-funny joke men (though I’m sure some Dadaist beat him to it), and always had that amazing glimmer in his eye. One always had the belief -dare I say illusion?- that he meant what he did.
Btw: if you ever want to see more Wolfman Jack related humor, check out the Upright Citizen’s Brigade episode with the Wolfman Jack doorbell, hill-ar-ious.
In other internet finds, it seems Kaufman, like Lynch, practiced transcendental meditation -amongst other fine company like Donovan, Jerry Seinfeld (wtf?), Howard Stern (jaw drop) and Dolly Parton (head explosion). Could it have been Andy Kaufman posing as the German Yogi in that amazingly horrible clip the other week, where the German Yogi talks about an ‘unbesiegbares Deutschland’ (ugly ugly words I don’t want to translate)? After all, someone claims to have seen him only a couple of months previous to this incident somewhere in France. Conspiracy theory schmaspiracy theory. Anyway, the video I refuse to embed shows one of the reasons why I love Berliners: not afraid to shout and making more theater in the audience than on stage, even when it’s not supposed to be a theatrical event. In fact, even if it weren’t Andy, I’m sure he’d be fascinated by the whole scenario one way or another. May the legend live on.
Fun:
