Well it looks like hurricane Ike will be making landfall in my general area on Saturday. How exciting. There hasn't been any official word of evacuation just yet but I know the university officials are meeting first thing tomorrow to decide if they should shut down the university or not (they more than likely will). If they do close the university for a few days I'll be around to hurricane-proof our office and just pray that the storm surges don't hit anywhere near us - our island is only 5ft above sea level and the average storm surge causes waves that are twice that. One of my roommates had already left for home and my other one plans on leaving tomorrow morning just in case. I pretty much get to leave when I get the ok from the university so I have no idea when that will be. I just hope that the traffic isn't too bad by then but we'll see.
I spent the whole day today backing up all of our more recent files so at least we'll have all of our archive files and the stuff we'll need for our upcoming programs. I'll be in charge of taking our external hard drive with me along with a few other office items that would be too expensive to replace (like my Adobe Creative Suite CS3 software package) with me when I leave. I've already called my Mom so she at least has some idea about what's going on and that way she won't be surprised to see me when I come home.
That's about all of the fun news I have for now. I'll see about updating again when I know something else but that'll all depend on my internet access since I'll be without a computer once my roommate leaves tomorrow.
