It has all of a sudden turned really cold here. There are girls playing soccer in the hallways and absolutely nobody is mulling out on the lawns...but Amber is still setting in her room wearing capris and a paper-thin hoodie, such an Arizonan! I have taken up crocheting as my preferred hobby, so nobody should be surprised if they receive a scarf or a hat for Christmas...its an inexpensive occupation, what can I say?
I wish someone was here by my side right now...or that someone would call me up, so I could say, "hey, guess what I did this past weekend!?!"...and then that someone would ask, "what, what, tell me, tell me!?!"...and then I would say, rather excitedly, "I went to New York!"...because that is exactly what I did...and I bet you are asking yourself right now...I know that Amber is dirt poor, how could she afford to spend three wonderful days in NYC? Only with some mighty fine connections. My friend Laura has a brother that lives in Westchester county, in Hartsdale, which is right next to Scarsdale...not that really matters, but anyways...he is the VP in charge of marketing for Virgin records...and Laura, a couple other friends, and I stayed at his house, and from Saturday night to Monday night, we ran around the city trying to take in as much as we possibly could.
On Saturday I met up with my South African friend David...mainly so I could glean him for information about a certain other South African...I'm shameless. David goes to NYU, so he showed us part of the campus, where he lives, how to use the subway system, things like that. We had an interesting conversation as we were setting in a little cafe in Greenich village. He told me that Gareth has broken up with at least two girlfriends in the past year all because they have come across pictures of me! Apparently, I have created a lot of havoc on the other side of the world and I didn't even know it!
oh yeah, and speaking of havoc, it looks like I have made some like this in Virginia as well. I don't ask for this kind of drama....anyways that will have to be the topic of another update...NY...
On sunday, I went to a street fair in midtown, lots of shopping and some really nice Greek food. Then there was Central Park and Fifth Avenue. Took a long walk through Tiffany's, which reminded me a little of Audrey Hepburn. I had a little old Chinese man talk me into getting my portrait drawn in Central Park. He did a very nice job...a large crowd gathered just to watch him, which was kinda funny and a little embaressing at the same time.
On Monday, we visited the financial district...the NYSE, federal hall, ect...we went to battery park, but the line to the statue of liberty ferry was too long...and we didn't have enought time to go to the empire state building...but that's ok...it just means that I will have to go back! ;)
Last night, we went to see Phantom of the Opera...my first Broadway actually on Broadway! and then after the show, we drove back to VA....an eight hour drive...I drove the last half of the trip, from D.C. down to Buena Vista...
and today, all I have done is slept and thought about how broke I now am. tomorrow we are having a date auction. yeah, there will be no betting for me...not that I am sure I would anyways, but its always nice having the option.
ok...I need to force myself to go to bed. I want to be awake enough to at least understand what's goin on.
