Mini-reviews:
Doctor Who - before I started watching this, I thought it was a probably funny but certainly low-budget Brit show that had been running for so long that it could have no cohesive plot or character arcs. Then my brother convinced me to watch the first episode. And it's not only witty, charming, and deeply addicting, with characters I fell madly for, but it's also the most brilliant TV show I've ever seen (yes, you can read that again), even defeating Battlestar Galactica. Start with the Christopher Eccleston season but that's when the series got a reboot after a hiatus during the 80s I believe, so it essentially starts all over (not that it really matters because the characters are so epic that the actors who play them don't matter that much). If you like Firefly or Star Trek or BSG or How I Met Your Mother or really almost any good television, you will love Doctor Who. Start it. (Did I mention the brilliant OTP? Yes it's almost all UST but for once I don't care)
Top loves of all time:
Dark Angel
Doctor Who
Alias
Friends
Firefly
Veronica Mars
Old loves
24(mostly the Jack/Audrey seasons)
Gilmore Girls
MI:5
One Tree Hill
Lost - so brilliant, and so flawed. First two seasons are excellent, skipped around a lot in the third, fourth, and fifth, and skipped the sixth entirely. Highly recommend it overall though
Dawson's Creek(the Pacey/Joey seasons/parts only)
JAG-one of the most consistently well-written shows of all time. The only non-characters-personal-lives-focused, procedural show I ever watched more than 2 seasons of.
The X-Files-what is there to say? classic.
Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman-because Teri Hatcher made me actually like Lois Lane.
Seinfeld
House - I watched and whole-heartedly loved this show for most of its run. But I finally gave up in the 7th season.
Stargate SG-1
Watch occasionally if on or if the mood strikes:
Pretty Little Liars
Leverage(highly like it. snappy and fun and cool. Same reason as above re: marathoning it though)
30 Rock
Burn Notice
NCIS
"Meh"(tried and didn't hate but ultimately didn't like enough to keep watching):
Carnivale - I still want to finish this at some point because it's utterly brilliant, but it's also very, very dark
Stargate Atlantis-meh
Being Human - this could be, and sometimes is, such a great show - but it's way too stomach-turningly graphic with both sex and violence for my taste.
Instant Star - Canadian TV show about a teenage girl who wins a singing contest and is primed to be a popstar. Adorable but sooo cheesy. Real-life singer Alexz Johnson rocks the singing parts but can't act
Prison Break - really enjoyed the first season, but hated the setup of the second so stopped
Bones-I watched and adored four seasons of this show before it went down the tubes in a bitter turn for fans, especially fans of the main couple
Merlin- very adorable. Doesn't have quite enough emotional depth/romance to make me watch consistently though
Grey's Anatomy
Smallville-have only caught an episode here and there, but the poor acting turns me off and the only thing I liked Kristin Kreuk in was Earthsea - she generally drives me insane
Everwood - adorable and well-written but everyone in it was either too old or too young to really keep my interest.
Kyle XY-a lot of potential and the first season was good, but deteriorated
Felicity-again, lots of potential(JJ Abrams+Keri Russell!) but didn't really make good on it - too shallow. And I despised the male lead(Ben).
Pushing Daisies-too over the top for me
La Femme Nikita-had a few good scenes/moments and a lot of potential but really killed by poor acting and loose plot
Psych - so mediocre
Ghost Whisperer-ditto
all the procedural shows - Law and Order, Criminal MInds, Without a Trace, CSIs, etc.
Gossip Girl - Serena is the only character I really like and not only do all the male leads bore me, but worse, I don't find them particularly attractive
The Closer - thought this would be a lot better than it was
Curb Your Enthusiasm - just not my type of humour
Dark Blue - too dark and intense
The Mentalist - oddly, too creepy for me
Outsourced
True Blood - great acting overall and superb cast but this is the most graphic TV show in terms of sex and violence I've ever seen - and they kill off too many good people who were needed to ground the show
The Pretender - this is really a very good show but there wasn't any romance that I could see and I got distracted by other, shinier shows
The Big Bang Theory - I need to watch more of this, but based on the first episode it only seemed mildly amusing instead of hilarious
Mad Men - what on earth is the hullabaloo about this show? Well-made and well-acted, yes, but it's basically a story of a bunch of nasty, amoral, sexed-up people colliding. Ugh.
Heroes
Warehouse 13
Twin Peaks - this seemed like it had the potential to be brilliant, and had some interesting moments, but I've heard that it's extremely creepy, and there weren't any characters which particularly grabbed me
Misfits - brilliant but much too graphic with the sex and violence. It's even more graphic than Being Human.
Lie to Me
Supernatural - this is a very solid show and how could I not love Jensen Eckles - but it's just too creepy for me. I'm an utter coward.
Carnivale - brilliant, but a little of this goes a long way. I hope to finish it at some point
The O.C. - have tried this twice and liked it much better the second time, but it just doesn't stick with me. Seen the first season and a half.
Liked but canceled:
10 Things I Hate About You
October Road
Life Unexpected- a sometimes successful, sometimes uneasy blend of One-Tree-Hill romantic shenanigans and Gilmore-Girls-good-hearted family drama.
