So, wow, I'm really behind.
March, as it is every year, is Amber travels month.
Since March 2, I've visited:
*Carytown, Richmond
*Charlottesville
*Fairfield
*Lexington
*Wise, Johnson City
*Stafford, Tyson's Corner, Springfield, Old Town Alexandria
*New York City
Our spring break road trip was amazingly wonderful and perfectly rose-tinted, sepia-toned and etched in our memories. Ryan, Mark, Sara and I visited each of our families, saw the state, went to the mountains and the valleys, watersides, cities and fields. It was lovely.
This week, we went to the annual (my last!) College Media Conference in New York and it was the best yet. Even though we stayed in a hostel (ew), it ultimately enabled us to see more of the city than ever before (the hostel was in Chelsea) and really bond a lot. We took 14 people on the trip - enough to merit a buddy system on the subways. The conference was really good and working with this staff continues to inspire me.
We frolicked around Chelsea to get to know our neighborhood.
Thursday:
*saw "Showgirls: The greatest movie ever made, ever" at Upright Citizen's Brigade. The comedians act out the best parts of the movie and use a movie screen to show clips, like the pool sex scene. it was SO money. If you're in New York any time soon, see it; it's only $5. The delivery was perfect, the exaggeration was perfect and they used Joe Esterhas' original stage directions, which were beyond stupid. It was excellent.
*ate at Cafeteria, a 24-hour swanky restaurant with lots of pretty gay boys and comfort food. I had the most amazing bacon and chives macaroni and cheese I've ever had, ever.
Friday:
went to conference, of course, and to some good sessions on layout, entertainment editing, interviews, helping new writers and more.
*hung around Times Square while our RYAN HUNG OUT WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER AND VIDEO EDITOR AT ABC WHO LOVED HIS STUFF. But no one could ever love his stuff as much as we do. I'm so proud of him.
*we had a delicious dinner in Little Italy at Lunella, who were very accomodating to our huge ass party.
*After that, a few of us celebrated St. Patty's at the Peter Macmanus pub around the corner from our hostel, where we got drunk off our asses, got birthday cake for Amber and had the entire bar sing to her. it was so much fun. Paulie fell down in the street; he was drunk as shit.
Saturday:
finished the conference, shopped at sephora and h&m, as always, and Will and I headed uptown to see the Robert Rauschenberg exhibit at the Met. After that, everyone, including Dr. Lee and Dr. Rosenberg headed to a nearby bbq place that had a 16-person table (what luck) and texas-size margaritas. I was drunk within like, 20 minutes and I proclaimed, "Oh no rosenberg knows" and she chuckled gently. She is probably booking me for a stay at Promises right now.
Today we drove home and I seem to have completely lost my voice. Bodes well for my presentation on Wednesday, huh?
So I'm home. I should be productive now, I guess. Or rest. both.
travel,
clog
