So after reading Jamie's weekend update, I figured I ought to write about mine. I'm currently waiting for some copy to put on the opinions page, so I'm in a stagnant mode.
On Thursday night I drove up to Alexandria to visit Sean and meet his family. The drive was long and boring, BUT I did buy the cardigan of my dreams at Old Navy. It's black and trimmed with pearls! I saw it and it was as if Old Navy had created their own Ambers line of clothing.
Friday we walked down to Old Town Alexandria and had enormous cheeseburgers at the Hard Times Cafe before walking downtown to the waterfront. Old Town is so cute, very much like a mini-Georgetown and Abingdon and Savannah all rolled into one. We wandered through the Torpedo Factory, which is an artist showcase housed in an old torpedo factory on the water. We conversed with a few artists and discussed how we need to pioneer manufacture of miniature torpedoes that could be launched at our enemies. Sean claims to have none, but I could think of at least a couple decent targets because I'm a hater.
That night, we had an adventurous dinner with his sister, parents, Irish cousin Donal, lifelong best friend Arthur and Arthur's witty girlfriend, Amanda. It was lots of fun. We discussed our different stances on important issues such as Tom Cruise: Yay or Nay? Donal proclaimed me a "doll," I think primarily because I agreed Tom Cruise is overrated to the xtreme.
Of course, we followed up this discussion by going to see War of the Worlds. I was not bothered by the ending, but I was extremely confused by the behavior of these crazy fleeing mobs. At one point, the crazy fleeing mobs decide to make signs for their missing loved ones as they flee toward a ferry. There are multiple problems with this scene.
1. Fleeing by ferry is about as smart as fleeing on a donkey. A ferry moves slowly, with nowhere to run and OBVIOUSLY the alien tripods are going to come out of the water.
2. When fleeing, who has time to laminate pictures of little Timmy and grab a couple sharpies and some neon posters? Did they stop by Staples on the way?
After the movie, we saw Sean's cat eat a mouse. It was a good ending to the day, I think.
Saturday, Sean, Katie and I went into DC to go to the Spy Museum, but our plan failed and we instead ventured over to the folklife festival. Let me say this, and please don't get offended, but we could only feign interest in Oman for 15 minutes before I dragged us to a pearl exhibit. Finally, we wandered around Georgetown before we came home and had dinner and a nice walk in Alexandria. I love boardwalks/piers and I always will.
And Sunday I came home. ABRUPT ENDING!
now let's do some work.
