Perspire by the Fire

Dec 12, 2007 22:30

At work I have been listening to the live feed of WASH FM at work, which I only do during the holidays since they play only Christmas music.  This afternoon "Winter Wonderland" came on, and I was forced to giggle aloud just a little bit.  See, when I was younger there were several Christmas carols and songs that I had slightly confused the lyrics to.  Of course, all of my musical snafus made sense to my third grade mind.  "Winter Wonderland" had one of the more amusing mix-ups, but they were all at least slightly amusing, and my parents still tease me about them.  I figured I'd share some of them today, since they made me smile.  Perhaps you, dear readers, will find the same joy.

Winter Wonderland
"Later on, we'll perspire as we dream by the fire."
Of course this makes sense.  When you're sitting by a nice warm fire talking with friends bundled up in your favorite holiday sweater, you sweat.  Fires are hot.

The Christmas Song
"Jack Frost sniffling at your nose."
I had constant colds during the winter time.  This song explained why.

Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel
"And run for captive Israel."
Clearly, I thought Emmanuel was going to run a race for freedom.  It made sense...one man fought another in the story of David and Goliath.  Why couldn't they race for freedom instead of fighting for it?

Hark!  The Herald Angels Sing
"Hark!  Ye here, old Angels sing!"
I distinctly remember belting this during one midnight service, and all the adults laughed at me as they tend to do when young children say something "precious."  The priest asked me why I sang that.  I looked at him and responded, "Well, aren't angels old?"
