I feel as though I've been so out of touch lately, which is probably true. While I have managed to somehow keep up with my flist, all you have gotten from me are quick and dirty updates or posts regarding "Scenes From the Big Picture." While it is true that "Scenes" has been running my life, there are some other things happening as well, and these things are probably far more interesting to y'all than my ramblings about a show.
The biggest event / change right now is that Rina and I have a new (temporary) roommate, Jarrod. He's staying with us until we move back into our apartment, or until the NY Fringe show is done, whichever comes first. On one hand this is seriously convenient for me; with him in the same apartment we will hopefully be able to get a lot of fringe work done. The more we get done now, the less I will go into panic / crisis mode once the festival is actually upon us. On the other hand, the awkward factor could always pop up. I'm not sure how it's going to play out when I bring a guy home..."This is my roommate Rina, and this is my ex-boyfriend / very good friend / colleague..." I guess when you stay friends with an ex, there is always the possibility of the awkward factor from time to time. I can only hope that the awkwardness doesn't interfere with work and preparation for Fringe. I can't imagine it would, but we'll have to wait and see I guess...
Next is the entirely new concept of "free time." Now that "Scenes" has opened, I have three nights a week to myself. (Four if you count Sunday after the matinee.) I have not quite known what to do with myself this week. It's an odd feeling to leave work and actually be able to go straight home, or go to the grocery store...Of course most people, or at least smart people, would go home on Sunday and crash. Clearly I'm not that smart. This is what I've done with my week so far.
I went straight from our Sunday matinee at Solas Nua to an evening perforamance at Theatre J. Why? They're light board op was out for a funeral, so they needed someone to cover his position. Since their sound guy is covering for a performance of our show, I figured I owed him one. I ran over there and ran lights for the most annoying stage manager I have ever met! Ever since I started stage managing, it's been difficult for me to work under other SM's because they don't do things the way I do. That's just the way it goes. Most of the time I learn from them...This one was just an idiot. She would double-call cue numbers, she didn't allow any talking over headset whatsoever, so if her crew had a question they were S.O.L. She called about 60% of the cues late, and she doesn't seem to understand the concept of a combined cue. Plus, she had the most annoying voice in the entire world. Seriously, argh! There's really nothing more to say about that.
Monday was actually really nice. I went to work, and a nice day. I was still moving a bit slower than usual, but given the craziness of the past two weeks, I think that's to be expected. What was exceptional about Monday was that I left work and went to the grocery store! I picked up a couple small items, headed home, cleaned my apartment, cooked myself dinner, and did my laundry. These things may seem every-day to my flisters, but for me that's a big deal. I haven't cooked myself dinner (as opposed to heating up a frozen one, eating out, or simply not eating) since at least Easter. I haven't been able to truly clean my apartment since before Easter. I have managed to do laundry, but it has required me to stay up until 3:00am after getting home at 12:30 from the Saturday night show. Monday felt like heaven...
Yesterday was also nice. I got to work early, which means I got to leave early, and I headed into Bethesda. I spent some time at Barnes & Noble, and ended up buying
Pan's Labyrinth and Gilmore Girls season 6. I am so far behind on this particular show. I know it's ended, I know the series finale was wonderful. I haven't seen it. In fact, I haven't really seen anything past half-way through season 6. This happens when you're in shows and therefore always in rehearsals on Tuesday nights. Now I can finally start to get caught up. After my brief stint there, I met SoundGuy for some drinks. It was nice, and we had a good time. I'm not sure how I do it, but I somehow manage to always form bonds with my sound designers / board ops. So we met around 7:00, and I assumed we would end up leaving around 9:00. Turns out we sat there and talked for four hours. I can't remember the last time I just sat and talked with a friend for four hours. Yay for having a social life again!
Tonight will be a slightly less exciting night, I fear. I have a mountain of cast laundry that must be done, and it is simply calling my name. I also have a dire need to get to the pet store, because we're quickly running out of litter for the kitties, and no one likes a stinky apartment. SoundGuy did invite me over for a LOST party that he and his friends are having, but I don't think I'm going to make it. Their laundry is in their basement, which is apparently sketchy and has dead spiders embedded in the ratty old carpet. (They're renting...) I think that means I'm going to have to stay home and do cast laundry at my place. I don't even know what's on TV tonight, given the finales and things that have been happening in my viewing absence. But hey, "American Idol" finale is tonight right? At least I know what TV event I can miss....
