Energetic Colors

I am the queen of over-commitment.

There is simply no other excuse for my absence.  I simply have too many things on my plate, and am unable to even begin the meal to make it smaller.  But before I get in to what's been gong on with me, I wanted to make a quick shout out to my flisters.  I've been keeping up on everything that's been going on in your lives, and it seems like a lot of you have some really great things going on for you all.  That makes me beyond happy, because you all deserve these wonderful opportunities that are coming your way!  On the other hand, a few of you have expressed that some rather sad, and even tragic events have occured.  Please do not think that my silence signifies that I don't care.  My love, heart, and prayers are always with you guys, in the good and the bad.

And now, on with the show...

I have started my new job, and have been here for two and a half weeks now.  For those of you who don't know, I am now working at the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids for the International Department.  Technically I'm the executive assistant to the VP of International, but the International Team is very rapidly growing and changing, and I usually end up doing admin. duties for the entire department.  Needless to say, it keeps me pretty busy during the day, but honestly I'm loving it so far.  Everyone here is crazy nice, and everyone is so committed to our cause.  It's truly awesome to be working somewhere that actually matters, with people who actually care about what they're doing.  We make things happen.  We get laws passed.  We help countries ratify international treaties.  How freaking awesome is that?  Except that my boss has no sense of organization.  Seriously, none.  My first day here I referred to him as Taz (to pull a cartoon character out of our childhoods...), and it stuck.  He has even said he likes it!  Is it sad that I'm looking forward to his upcoming business trip?  He has given me permission to go into his office while he's gone, and organzie everything in exactly the way I want it so that I can find everything I need to find.  The neat freak in me is jumping up and down for joy, making little squeeing noises. Oh, he also has no organizational skills.  He can't manage his calendar, so things like the following happen all the time.  Last Wednesday he called me into his office to inform me that we have a large grants review meeting happening in a week, and the logistics needed to be figured out.  Um, okay.  This gave me three business days to figure out where we were getting furniture, where our guests would be staying, what offices they would be using, whether or not we could issue them computers, what they would be eating and where the food would come from, who would be taking minutes in the meeting, etc.  Oh, and we don't we throw in a social reception at the end of day 2, just to be wild and crazy!  Three business days.  I'm not quite sure how, but (with the help of a very awesome intern), we managed to pull it off.  Well, so far anyways.  I'm currently sitting the middle of Day 2 of this large event.  (We're taking a break because the chairs for the new conference room make your butt fall asleep after about an hour of sitting in them.  Especially when you can't move around at all...)

Okay, as I'm reading over that, I realize it sounds somewhat sarcastic, but it's not meant to.  I must just be tired from taking notes all day long.  Seriously, I love my job.  It's crazy, busy, fast-paced, and has moments of high-stress, and I absolutely love it!  We have the EA lunch every Friday at 12:00 where we talk about anything except work, and read each others' horoscopes out loud.  We have the bourbon club every Friday evening at 5:00pm, and that is exactly what it sounds like.  We work hard, but we have so much fun doing it!

On top of the first month at a new job, I also have some other things happening.  Well, four other things happening.  I am currently stage managing four shows.  Four shows at once!  I'm not even really sure how it happened.  "Mill Town Girls" just opened last weekend, and enjoyed a very successful opening weekend.  Now we're looking forward to a successful, well-attended run.  "Scenes From the Big Picture" is in the rehearsal process, and is shaping up to be a truly awesome show.  Then I have "Pygmalion" and "The Lesbian and the Flying Pig" are both in the early production stages (meetings, castings, etc.)  Of course, I have to be at those.  So basically, my calendar is still just as busy at it was last month, except that now it is no longer social engagements, but rather work commitments that keep it that way.

And of course there is always V.   I tend to have about one night off per week on average, and somehow he always manages to end up claiming that.  We're starting to set our plans to go to NYC to see "Wicked."  We're looking at a weekend in the end of June.  So somehow he's managed to survive seroiusly pissing me off twice, and he's somehow still around...

On a much more seroius note, a word on the VA Tech tragedy.  I am truly saddened by the events that happened there this week.  I am very grateful to say that the people I know there are all accounted for, but I know many people are not as lucky.  So, to VA Tech, my prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Okay, so that's my quick and dirty update, and now I think it's time to go back to actually paying attention to this meeting that I'm in.  (Yeah, we've started back up again.)  I'll try to do something more indepth soon.  Although with so much going on and my being pulled in 1,000 different directions, it may end up being just as crazy as this.  So here's an idea.  If there is something specific you would like to hear about, leave me a comment.  I'll put up posts in response to the comments.  Otherwise you'll be doomed to read more of these crazy, all-over-the-map type of entries.
