The thing I like most about going out to movies is when the entire crowd reacts the same way to a single scene. It's rare and magical. I can only think of three times I've seen it. In King Kong, everyone reacted identically to Andy Serkis's "Abominable Snowman" line (dead silence in the lead-up, and a burst of relieved laughter at the punchline); in The Descent, everyone jumped at the first close-up reveal of the creatures. This weekend in Spiderman III,
when Mary Jane kissed Harry, everyone groaned. It was hilarious. As was the little kid behind us who, at the scene of a roiling puddle, deadpanned, "Maybe it's Waterman."
I must have been looking especially good yesterday, because two different guys I work with sang to me when I walked past. This isn't rare--you can always hear people singing or whistling in the halls--but still. I inspire men to song. That's weird.
