In the Adventures in Kanji file: I was driving along and happened to glance at the Chinese menu on the passenger seat, and there in one corner was a big bold
. And I kind of snorted and went "Month? What does 'month' have to do with Chinese food? I bet they just covered the menu with symbols because they figured nobody would ever HOLY COW, I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS." Because the kanji for 'month' is also the kanji for 'moon', and the place is called the Honey Moon.
I don't have the faintest idea how it would be pronounced in Chinese of any kind, but I can now identify beef, pork, steamed items, and anything Schezuan on a menu with no English on it.
