I finally watched Monday's Heroes, and seriously, that was probably the best 45 minutes of television I've seen in a year. Yeah, it had its less-interesting points, but the core conflicts just blew me away. I couldn't love these characters any more.
trinityday sounded interested in my "fancy fudge" comment, so here's how it went down: I made two batches of fantasy fudge from the recipe on the jar of marshmallow creme, and split them to make four different kinds.
1) Mint: Replaced 1/2 tsp vanilla with 1/2 tsp of mint extract, piped on leaves of green peppermint icing
2) Regular
3) Almond: Added 1/2 c chopped almonds, replaced 1/2 tsp vanilla with 1/2 tsp almond extract, piped on pink-and-white cherry blossoms in almond icing. These plus the mint ones looked so classy.
4) Raspberry: This is the one that flopped. I replaced 1/2 tsp vanilla with 1/2 tsp of raspberry extract, and then mixed in 1/2 cup actual raspberries, which were supposed to make for an interesting texture. Instead they turned the fudge into liquid. Who knew? The resulting slop was tasty, but sadly unserveable. I'm probably going to use it to ice some brownies later this week.
Oh, one note on the fudge: this is the first time I've made fudge with a candy thermometer, and both batches came out absolutely perfect. Hit-or-miss no more!
