Neil and Novels and Nathan, o my

Well. It's been a very exciting day in the BPAL fandom, with the lunar update and the introduction of Neil Gaiman-themed perfume oils. Smell godly! And they're in support of the CBLDF as well.

Speaking of comic books, Y: The Last Man is just the best thing ever.

Lost season 3 comes back in a week, so I owe somebody a recap of my exact feelings for this show.

I love Lost. Lost has a mythology so deep and complex that even the writers cannot keep up with it. The characters have such deep internal struggles that sometimes the actors get confused.

There's such variety in the show's elements. Sometimes there's psychic powers, sometimes a slave ship, sometimes a polar bear, sometimes a smoke beast. It's like a new show every week!

Of course, novelty must be based in storytelling consistency. Charlie will never stop battling his addiction no matter how long he's been clean or how many times someone burns, scatters, or drowns the heroin. You can rest easy that no matter how many times someone points a gun at Sawyer's head, they will never, ever kill him. And it's touching that everybody on or off the island has daddy issues. What an interesting theme--I'll never get tired of it!

It's intriguing to watch how being imprisoned on the island affects characters' psyches. Charlie goes from arrogant to lovelorn to baptism-crazed in the blink of an eye. Jin might or might not accept his wife's independence on any given episode. Locke's faithful, not faithful, faithful, not faithful.... Most shows would decide whether Eko was a good priest or a lousy priest, but not Lost!

And did I mention the thrills? I was on the edge of my seat when Sawyer JUMPED for the raft without even realising that below THE waves was a Dharma-branded SHARK!

I love how they have fascinating characters in reserve but are withholding them for just the right moment. I think it's great that they pile questions upon questions without ever answering any. Nobody likes seeing a mystery solved! I love the way they kill off important fan favorites for offscreen reasons. It's good to know that there are things more important to the producers than mere storytelling.

En fin, Heroes rules my world with all its flawed wonderfulness.
