Boo Berry

I am pretty much a High Priestess of cooking disasters, so when I tell you I just made a mess in my kitchen, you know I made a mess.

A couple of months ago I got in my head that I wanted some homemade strawberry jelly--which is wonderful and I haven't had it since I lived at home. So me and my mom went out, we picked twenty-four boxes of berries, went home, hit the Sure-Jell, and cranked out some goodly canned jam.

Bully, I think. So last week in the grocery store I grabbed me some Mason jars, frozen raspberries, sugar, and hope.

No sweat. I just did this in June.

First: it is really hard to crush half-frozen berries. Thaw next time. (Although it was kind of nice that raspberries come pre-segmented, as it were.)

Second: That stuff is red, man. Don't get it on you.

Third: In fact, don't boil it on the stovetop right beside your white wall, because it will spray up taller than you are. I'm pretty short, but not so short that it wasn't an astonishing distance for bits of boiling jam to jump.

Fourth: If you are handling 180-degree glass AND wet lids AND bands AND boiling fruit-sugar, it would really help to have somebody else with you.

Fifth: Burns heal.

Sixth: If those things don't set I will be so annoyed.
