Wow, I had no idea this would prove such a difficult nut to crack. O_o But here's the twelve doods that made up the composite photo in
my last post:
---
1.
Dirk Benedict, possibly the oldest photo of the bunch. For those too young to remember, he played Starbuck in the original Battlestar Galactica and Templeton Peck, aka Face Man, in The A-Team.
2.
Harrison Ford--I trust he needs no introduction. XD
3.
Bill Pullman, aka the President from Independence Day, and before that, Lone Starr in SpaceBalls.
4.
Brosnan. Pierce Brosnan.
5.
Cary Elwes. It's surprisingly difficult to find a good clear full-face image of this guy, but if you don't recognize him from the photo, he played the Dread Pirate Roberts in The Princess Bride and Robin Hood in Men In Tights.
6.
George Clooney. I'm rather surprised more people didn't identify this one; I thought the eyes were a dead giveaway.
7.
Will Smith. Probably my favorite actor all around these days. Kudos to those who figured out that not everybody in the pic was white! (Guessed by

8.
Jensen Ackles, AKA Dean Winchester from Supernatural, the youngest of the lot.
9.
Antonio Banderas. I really must watch The Mask of Zorro again sometime soon.
10.
Richard Gere. (Note: No gerbils were harmed in the making of this composite.)
11.
David Boreanaz, who played Angel in The Buffy and Angel series and Booth in Bones. Several people both on LJ and in IRC managed to peg this one; there's something very distinctive about the dude's face. (Guessed by
graylor and
cpip.)
12.
And finally, Johnny Depp. Easily the prettiest of the bunch, at least when he bothers to clean up properly. :p (Guessed by
musegaarid and
sciamanna.)

Much to everyone's surprise, no, Orlando Bloom was not part of the composite! The fact that people repeatedly thought they saw him suggests to me that he must have an archetypal sort of face, sharing features in common with a lot of other actors. (Or that there's an unhealthy obsession with Orlando Bloom among my friends and acquaintances, I'm not sure which. XD)
Other incorrect guesses: Jimmy Smitts, James Marsters, Billy Dee Williams, Viggo Mortensen, Dean Cain, Nathan Fillion, and Kevin Sorbo. Some of whom would have been in there if I had thought of them. XD
My primary criterion for choosing actors to include in the composite, apart from my subjective evaluation of their attractiveness, was that they look like a guy. I'm not a big fan of the metrosexual/androgynous look. Thus why I called them 'handsome' rather than 'pretty.' (And also probably why Orlando Bloom was not included, alas; I still see Legolas in him as much as Will Turner. XD) Johnny Depp almost didn't make the cut for that reason; I just like him too much to leave him out.
Also note that in several cases, I had to reject more flattering photos of the guys in favor of others that had better angles, expressions or lighting for my purposes.

If you're interested in composite or average faces, what makes faces alike and different and what makes a face 'attractive,' there's a really interesting site where they study them and let you play around with the concept:
Face Research Thanks to everybody who guessed! I hope y'all had fun. :)
