2008 Holiday Wish List

Nov 28, 2008 19:29

Well, it's that time of year again. All things considered, I really can't complain too much; I know things have been tough for everyone and I've got it much better than many people (including some on my friends list here.)

Still, making up one's wish list is part of the fun of the holidays, so here's mine.

Holiday Wish List: The Meme, created by tartanshell

STEP ONE

- Make a post (public, friends-locked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of ten holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV"). The important thing is to make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) can get in touch with you. Your home address is not required!

- Make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

STEP TWO

- Surf around your friends list (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now, here's the important part...

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes one person's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.

- You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call. There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. Just... wish, and it might come true. Give and you might receive. You'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

AmberDiceless' Holiday Wish List 2008

1. Do something cool for the planet or your fellow human beings--something you weren't already planning to do anyway! Replace an incandescent light bulb with a CFL, donate a little extra to the Salvation Army or Toys for Tots or the Old Newsboys, or replace a disposable product with a reusable one. Every little bit helps.

2. Paid LJ time, as always, is a great blessing.

3. Bath and Body Works Warm Vanilla Sugar Body Lotion and/or Body Cream. This stuff keeps the skin on my hands from cracking painfully in the winter, and I adore the way it smells. (Please, though, no other products in the line--I either can't use them or still have them from previous years!)

4. Sweets! Harry and David milk or dark chocolate truffles, any brand of peppermint bark, or Brach's orange slice candies are at the top of my list.

5. A subscription to Time Magazine.

6. Energizer High Energy Nickel-Metal Hydride rechargeable batteries, AA and/or AAA. Any number would be most useful.

7. A gift card to JCPenney, the iTunes store or Amazon.

8. Nokia TracFone airtime in any amount--I'm constantly running out.

9. Anything from my Amazon wish list (new or used, makes no difference as long as it's in usable shape. Comment here for a link.)

10. Curtains; the type with a slot for a curtain rod, preferably solid navy blue or cream colored, 80" long. New or used, homemade or store bought, anywhere from two to twelve panels. We're currently keeping the living room warm by hanging old sheets, quilts and bedspreads in the doorways and over the windows, so decent-looking curtains would be a huge improvement.

Post your own wish list in your journal and at holiday_wishes! Then comment here and let me know you did so I can go check it out. :)

Also, I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank once again everyone who has replied to my wish lists in years past. Y'all rock this world.
