Just catching up as the weekend was filled with computer network upgrades in a boring suburban DC officeplex. The photo looks a bit like Shanghai in mainland China. On one side of the river were all these 17th and 18th century European buildings which were built when Shanghai was a British colony. And directly across the river were all these new skyscrapers and funky designed buildings. The contrast in architecture was very dramatic also.
I think it's something that is interesting to us Americans, since very few of our buildings are old enough to create the contrast. On top of the fact that we are more likely to just bulldoze the old to make room for the new.
I'm sure the same thing happens in Europe, where you'd have gothic or ancient buildings and graveyards right next to new construction.
