This evening I sat down Indian style in front of my TV, and watched the beginning of The Muppet Movie. The intro song speaks of hopes and dreams, and I listened to it the night before I started law school.
geofire's entry from this morning has served to point my mind in the right direction today, and in that spirit, I am gathering my wits and my heart. It is in challenging times that we realize our character, cliche as it sounds. And in some way, Jim Henson was just the right person for me to listen to tonight.
So now what? I will find a way, however small, to get involved in local Madison politics. I don't know how it will turn out, but the one thing I know from the past 24 hours is that the Democratic party has a lot of thinking to do. We need a new direction for unifying the left, and maybe I can help that effort.
I commit to ask not, "Why will this not work?" I will ask, simply, "What else can I do? What else should I try? How else can I help?"
It is my hope that I will never run out of answers to those last three questions.
(And, well, as John Belushi advised, I've started drinking heavily...)
