oh my. i'm finally back online. apparently, at the beginning of every semester when the whole lot of students suddenly signs on all at once, the server crashes and voila - no more internet. but i'm back on today. and with good news!

i have a new job! nothing special or wonderful at all. but probably one of the best jobs i could have hoped for. there is no job that i could have gotten that would be closer or more flexible than this. i'm "paul's assistant." paul is the resident manager for the section of stadium drive apartments in which i live. and that's my title because he doesn't like the one wmu uses, which is stairwell custodian. haha. it's seriously one of the easiest jobs, though. i sweep the 18 stairwells in his "jurisdiction" and take care of any trash or stray items there. and there are bulletin boards at each stairwell so i will have to occasionally clean those off or post new flyers. 20 hours a week, whenever i want. i can work those twenty hours literally any time. i can get up at 5 in the morning and "go to work" before i even shower. and since i won't be able to fill 20 hours a week in the summer just sweeping, i'll help paul out with other stuff. it's basically on an honor system, though, since i fill out my own time slips without any "real" official clocking system. in the winter it will be much easier to fill the hours, though, since i'll be shoveling the snow as well. but man. how perfect is this? it's right in my own backyard and i can do the work at any time. and i don't have to walk fifty minutes to be able to start the work. oh am i delighted. like i said, not the most....special job. but it's super for me. =D

additionally, i went job hunting this morning and got an interview right away at one of the places. it's a cafe at a little used bookstore downtown. about a thirty minute walk away. and the woman sounded very interested, but since i have such limited availability, she doesn't know if i'll fit into the schedule. but she'll let me know. and if so, that's a great second job since i can easily work around it, and the hours are great to boot. it's not open sundays and never past 8pm. but whether or not i get that job, i'll be making about 115 dollars a week sweeping and picking stuff up! in my own "backyard." if you couldn't tell, i'm pretty pleased. =)

now i just have to go "quit" at hardings. i've not really started up again so i'm not damaging their schedule. but i do feel sooo bad. i specifically asked them if i'd still have a job when i got back from germany, and they even offered me a bump up to produce, and here i go quitting on them. but i simply can't stand to walk that far to work in either sweltering heat or blistery snowstorms. even in the bright sun of summer i still almost get run over by idiot drivers. three is the number so far, of how many times i've had to physically dodge a car not to be hit/run over. (i once had to jump into a snowbank. at five am. when there were no other drivers on the road but that blind and/or simply jackass suv driver.) when i had the right of way. that won't be an issue here since cars aren't even allowed to drive in the area where i'll be working (i'll be in the stairwells, anyhow). they're only allowed on the outskirts of the apartment complex. like i said. perfect.
