Andy stops short at the sound of Mirka's voice. The last thing he wants to do is interrupt some kind of happy family time, and he knows beyond a doubt that he would kill the mood.

“Just change them. I'll be right back.”

“Mirka...”

Andy can hear the pout in Roger's tone, and he knows that he's started to slump his shoulders a little. It was a cute look on Roger when coupled with a pout, but it never worked on Mirka. It had always worked on him though.

“I do it all the time. You'll be fine.”

“Yeah but I don't want to change diapers.”

“Just do it, please.”

He has to hold back a laugh as Mirka comes around the corner, but the fact that he is amused is more than evident. Andy nods and smiles a little to widely, and Mirka gives him the same type of smile back shaking her head a little bit as she walks off down the hall. When he looks back he realizes that he has had moments like these with Mirka for a long time. She's always been there with some look, and a few words. Through so many losses on court, and through so many issues off. It was weird for him to think that she was as much of a constant in his life as she was in Roger's.

A dull aching guilt settles deep in his chest.

Andy pushes the feeling back as he leans against the door frame watching Roger. The look of concentration and disgust was clearly spread across Roger's face as he started the process. Andy had never seen that expression before and it amused him beyond words.

“Please don't cry.” Roger says before bending over to dig through the giant diaper bag.

It was really hard for Andy to not be obvious about enjoying the view. He knew he shouldn't really be checking out Roger's ass while he looked around for wipes and diapers. Thankfully Roger was standing upright again, and laying out a towel on the table. He turned and smiled at the girls before carefully taking one out of her carrier.

“I know you didn't poop for Papa right? No you didn't, did you pretty girl? No. Because pretty girls don't poop for their Papa's.”

Andy's grin turns into a soft smile as he listens to Roger ramble to the little girl about not pooping till he has the diaper off and there is in fact no poop.

“Thank you!” Roger smiles and tickles the baby getting a soft happy noise from her.

In a few seconds Roger is switching off the girls and starting the same speech with the second one. It starts a warm feeling, almost like nervous butterflies, flooding through his body. In that moment he thinks maybe he was really wrong when he turned Roger down. This was something he wanted, and now he knew he wanted it with Roger.

“Andy. Did you need to talk to Roger?”

This time he jumps at the sound of Mirka's voice.

“No, I was just walking through, didn't want to interrupt.”

“They don't bite. They don't have teeth.” Mirka smiles at him assuming the pale, sad look is some kind of baby phobia.

Andy laughs back faking a smile. “No. I just didn't want to walk through and spook him.”

“Was he was talking to them again?”

“Yeah it was cute.” Andy lets it slip and then looks away, and down when he looks up Mirka is giving him that look. He's seen it so many times.

“You lost your chance last year.”

“I know, just sometimes, I wish I didn't.”

“But you did Andy, and I'm not sorry that you did.”

Mirka walks away and picks up one of the girls smiling at Roger who's holding the other. Andy wants so badly just to be happy for the family, but he can't. He just can't be happy for Roger right now, maybe in ten or twenty years, but not now.

With a sigh he turns away trying to shake off the empty feeling. He can't spend his life thinking about what if.
