I've always been creative. It probably started when I was an infant and my mom caught me finger painting with poo and my Gramma told her I was obviously artistic and to buy me some modeling clay (it tastes yucky, unlike play dough LOL)
I did weird things like dig ponds to swim in, and create gardens in miniature fairy size, complete with meat tray ponds. Oh and left clothes behind for them sewn by hand from my moms scraps (after I got my butt smacked for cutting up one of her nice dresses)
So I think a lot of the creative process just comes purely from being that kind of person. You either are or you aren't.
You can LEARN to be good at a particular creative process. Ok, profficient, but something that emotionally moves you that is a creative process is probably not going to come from some without a creative bone in their body.
So that said, I generally believe a creative person will find ideas from the world around them. Driving down the street during fall the colors will move you. A lot of times I have my various crafty stuff arranged so that I can see them. Like my fabric is visible in various cubicles so I walk by it all the time. The colors move me into creating things with the fabric.
Other times it's out of necessity. My children want their rooms done a certain way (the girls flowers/fairies/bugs and the boys outer space. I don't have the money to go buy them quilts, curtains and murals. But I do have fabric, paint and a mind that thinks that way.
I'll look on the internet to see what other people have done for their children's rooms.
For instance, I saw where someone had written that painting their sons furniture steel grey to mimic a space station was something they had done. I instantly see furniture painted with fake rivets and shadowy vents. Maybe some mural robots...
My baby needs some pants and long sleeved shirts. I'd love to be able to afford some punk-baby stuff, but hey, I have lots of stretchy black fabric and various plaids. Hmm. I'd also love for her to have a couple of Halloween outfits. Oh wait, what about all those Halloween themed ribbons I bought after Halloween last year? Hmmm, ideas, ideas. Yeah, now to implement them.
I also to try to draw out or write down the ideas so I can go back to them later when I DO have the time.
what do you have to say?,
