Poetry - Edna St. Vincent Millay

Sep 07, 2011 02:27

I talk of music mostly but rarely do I post anything about poetry. its kinda unfortunate since lately, it hasn't occupied as much as my life as it used to (and to that, I blame visual kei). So, I decided that I will start writing about it on my LJ-sharing or just merely commenting. None of you have to necessarily read it if you don't want to but I'm putting it here just so you all can know a little more about me.

The following poem is by Edna St. Vincent Millay

City Trees

The trees along this city street,
Save for the traffic and the trains,
Would make a sound as thin and sweet
As trees in country lanes.

And people standing in their shade
Out of a shower, undoubtedly
Would hear such music as is made
Upon a country tree.

Oh, little leaves that are so dumb
Against the shrieking city air,
I watch you when the wind has come,-I know what sound is there.

I feel like this poem often.
