Spike is seated at his desk, going over the last minute changes to the latest assinine proposal from the UN to the EDC - and how he got saddled with doing this, he has no idea, but there you are. If he had his druthers, he'd drop the whole damned thing in his document shredder and pretend the damned thing had never arrived ( Read more... )

There is a crackling noise at the other end of the line. And then a voice is heard. It is deep and mechanical, but almost too much so -- deliberately faked, overdone, overdramatic.

Almost like a voice changer.

"Ambassador," the voice buzzes, the toying tone able to be heard despite whatever synthesizers it's being run through, "you've got quite a cute kid, you know that?" There's a short pause. "It'd be a shame if something happened to him."

Spike's relief at being rescued from paperwork immediately dies, and he comes to attention in his seat.

"Who is this?" he demands, leaning forward to key in the codes to flag this transmission for security.

"That is of no matter, Ambassador. There are more important things to attend to. Your son's safety, for instance." There is a pause. "He's taking a little nap right now. If you exactly as I say, perhaps I'll let you speak to him."

Spike's blood freezes in his veins.

"If you hurt him, I don't care who you are, or where you're hiding... I will find you, and I will personally rip your spleen out through your eye sockets," he warns, voice level, calm, and low. Deadly.

He pulls a text com screen up and starts typing out a message to Kup to find Daniel immediately.

Wheelie wanders in a bit later, looking cool as Skyfire in 1983. "Mr. Witwicky, I'd just like to say: have you seen Daniel at all today? We were going to go outside and play but I think he might have gone away." Nothing in his voice betrays the fact that he's spent the last few hours practically tearing Central City apart.

Spike pauses in the hallway on his way to his car. Finding Carly will have to wait. May as well start everything here.

"Wheelie. You were going to go out with Daniel today? He didn't mention any plans to me," he replies, assuming a neutral tone that could almost be a little on the cool side. There is the faintest emphasis on "going"; he is not sure why Wheelie would come to see him unless he already knew there was something wrong, but he didn't want to tip his hat too soon, if the minibot was still in the dark. The two were very close, and if Wheelie found out, Spike doubted that even a direct order from him could keep Wheelie from looking for Daniel.

He could not allow that to happen.

Wheelie grins and shrugs, not wanting Spike to suspect that Daniel's gone missing on his watch. "Less his idea than mine, but I thought the idea'd be fine."

Still in the dark, Spike decides. This is good, or rather, as good as anything in this whole damned situation can be. Spike carefully schools his expression into a detatched mask and slips into his most Ambassadorial tone.

"I'm afraid that recent events have demonstrated to me that Daniel needs a more stable, more... human environment to grow up in. I am restricting his contact with any of the Autobots, and he is being taken to a boarding school where he can develop more healthy interpersonal relationships with human children his own age. I would appreciate it if the Autobots, particularly yourself and Cureall, do not make any attempts to contact him or locate him." He pauses for a moment to let that sink in, before continuing.

"I like you Wheelie, but this is the best thing for Daniel right now. Please do us the courtesy of respecting the wishes of my wife and I. I do not wish to resort to more drastic measures to protect Daniel."

He can only hope that Wheelie takes the bait now.

Spike flashes his ID as he heads down the hallways to the lab where Carly is working. He feigns a pleasant nod to the security detail as he passes them before continuing on his way. The doors to the lab whoosh open, and he heads inside and waits for his wife to notice him.

*Carly is working on something shiny and sleek and dangerous-looking, reading glasses perched on her nose and a stylus in her mouth.*

*speaks around it* Hey, Spike. Give me a minute.

He nods, crosses his arms, and waits patiently by the door out of her way. Ordinarily he likes to watch her work. She has a quiet sort of commanding air about her, so serious and yet so happy, when she is in the middle of a project. It usually does very pleasant things to his libido to observe her in her element.

Today, however, those thoughts are about as far from his mind as they could be and remain in the same universe.

*after a minute's fiddling, Carly straightens and smiles at her husband, sweat slicking her bangs to her forehead.* That should do it. What's up? *pauses, seeing the subdued expression on his face* Something wrong?

Cureall knocks before entering the lab, "Mrs. Witwicky? This one could not find the Ambassador or Daniel, so she thought to ask..."She notices Spike and looks embarassed, "Did she come at a bad time?"

Spike drapes his arm over Carly's shoulder as he casts a coolly appraising look over the minibot.

"Cureall," he says by way of acknowledgement, his tone a little distant. "Not at all. What can we do for you?"

She is thrown off by his tone. She walks in fully and gives a polite bow.

"Good afternoon, Ambassador. This one is glad she found you both. She has been told that Daniel has been grounded for a bit for a prank he pulled," Cureall giggles, "And as much as this one understands the need to disapline him, she would like to request that he be allowed to come to a party she is having for her birthday. Barring that, may she be allowed to take a present to him? She has been doing so for all her freinds."

She gives both Carly and Spike a bright happy smile, "This one would like permission from both of you if that is alright? May she take Daniel to the party?"

*hesitates, but doesn't let herself look at Spike.*

I... don't know if he'll be able to make it, Cureall.
