"So explain to me again why I don't have to put the sign on the door tonight?" Inara called from her spot on the patio. She loved having the breeze run through her hair, though the knots would be a mess later.

"Because I won a bet," Gavin said, wandering out to the patio and inhaling deeply. "I won this golf game thing and we get the room tonight."

"So, what? They're sleeping on the lawn?" She asked, reaching a hand out for his. "That doesn't seem at all sporting."

"Beach, I think," he said, twining his fingers with her and stepping closer to kiss her temple. "It's nice here."

"I like it," she leaned her head against him. "Think they'd notice if we stayed?"

"Probably," Gavin sighed. "Still, there's one more day here. And I'm not sunburned yet."

[ambassadorinara]

"Do you want to be?" Inara was realizing how lucky she was to have easily-tanning ancestry. "I understand it's relatively painful."

"Oh, no no," he said and shook his head. "I meant more that's an accomplishment because I'm pale."

"Vigilance is its own reward?" She smiled up at him. "Are you glad you came?"

[sixstandingby]

"Yep," he said, smiling at her and then out at the view. "I am. And I'll be sad to leave. I really like it here."

"Even though we normally have to share a room?"

[sixstandingby]

"That can be worked around," he said and smirked. "As it was tonight."

She resisted the urge to make fun of him. "How did you end up winning? Have you played golf before?"

[sixstandingby]

"Nope," he said and shrugged. "I just hit that little white ball as hard as I could and made sure not to miss."

[ambassadorinara]

"How much didn't you miss by?" She asked. "Was John angry?"

[sixstandingby]

"I didn't miss by a lot," he said proudly, grinning. "And now, he was surprised. I was smug."

"You? Smug?" She started giggling.
