If fighting with Tobias was as infrequent as the excitement in Rachel's life, she'd probably have a better relationship with her boyfriend. So with this last screaming match in the apartment (one side that could be heard from the street, the other only shouted in her head), Rachel stomped out, slammed the door, and left.
Of course he could find her if he really wanted to and there was no danger that Rachel wouldn't be able to find her way back. But when Rachel needs her space she makes it known and Tobias is usually on enough to let her have it - for a few hours, at least.
Which is about how long it takes for her to fly south into Oklahoma, where a small herd of buffalo are moving across the plains. It's not much to occupy her attention but since her own world is devoid of wild herds of the beasts, it's something to think about.
So that's where she is - a tall, teenage girl in black lycra, sitting on a rotted wooden fence, watching buffalo graze.
