A minute or so later, it opens again.

A few seconds and it slams again.

Just to make a point.

But it's open when the other person who lives there finds his way.

Her gaze sharpens on him. She'd tried to be gentle, to be honest.

"If I'd given up, we'd all be dead and everyone on Earth would have a Yeerk in their heads!"

And he acts as that's worthless.

Which is unfair, and he knows it. The alternative was so much better than losing the war. At least in the grand scheme of things.

Just... Tobias didn't care about the grand scheme of things at the moment.

And it's not the Auxiliaries she's thinking about. Or the Hork-Bajir. Not even the civilians on the street.

Rachel glares at him, still angry, so angry.

But he was at her funeral.

He glares back, just as angry. Well, maybe not just as angry. Rachel's always been better at that than him.

She left him! And she doesn't seem to think of it as a big deal. As the biggest deal.
