O Canada
Because we are fucking nerds, the MB and I talk a lot about Canadiana. So obviously the subject of our National Anthem had been discussed before. I don't know, I love our anthem. Anyway, he's told me about this other song, this "much better" song, that "should have been the anthem" because it is an "all around better song" and is "more inspirational".
Today is St-Jean-Baptiste Day, which inspired me to look up the wiki article on this subject. Which lead me to find out that O Canada was actually originally written in French and for this holiday. I thought that was pretty damn cool. Anyway, that lead to the article about O Canada and then to the article about The Maple Leaf Forever.
So I read the article, which includes the lyrics, and they suck. The lyrics, not the article so much. Alright alright I said, the MB says the music is the best part so I'll listen to the song.
Mistake.
What a shitty fucking song! "Inspiring" my ass. It's depressing and made me want to hurt myself. I'd tell you to listen to it so you know what I'm talking about, but really, all you need to know is that the damn thing is like a cross between an old-time cereal jingle and the theme for a kids' show. Terrible.
