Harry found it difficult to work with people. So when the job with the animal shelter opened, he was happy to find out it was a driving job, taking animals from one shelter to the overflow shelter several miles away.
On Friday, Harry had one more run to make. A pregnant pooch was being transferred to the second shelter. He loaded her into his car instead of the shelter van, thinking he would clock out there, and leave for home.
Everything appeared to be going well until the dog started to whine, and her breathing became distressed. He pulled the car over and put on his flashers. He got out to open the rear door to see what was up with the dog. She dashed passed him and onto the sidewalk. She had started to deliver a puppy. He saw that she was not going to be able to get back into the car, so he grabbed some a roll of paper towels and helped her deliver the next five puppies. He wiped them down and set them next to their mom.
A police car stopped behind him and put their lights on. The police officer helped Harry get the pups and the momma back into the car. As he was getting ready to pull away, the cop came up to his window and handed him a citation for littering on a public sidewalk.
tee hee!
