I totally hold the same expectations, especially the assassination attempt and the steps towards socialism. But, honestly, I'm less nervous about the socialism than I should be, maybe. Unregulated capitalism had it's chance, and it screwed things up. Something different would be good. It would be best, though, if we switched to some kind of bastardized socialism, a system that recognized the need for people to treat themselves as a community while still valuing the rights of the individual. But, I guess we'll see how it goes.

We already practice a bastardized form of socialism. How much of the inner workings of the US do you think the government owns? They have our schools, some 78% of the stock market, if I remember right...some of our health care, and now our banks.

So, yeah. It's practically socialism in everything but name and real practice. The free market system would work with regulations, but greedy lobbyists keep wanting Congress to throw them out. We can see where that has gotten us.

I do think a different approach is needed, at least temporarily, in order to restore order to the economy. We do need to be careful though, not to fall into the trap of thinking that a little success means it is the way to go. That could lead us into communism if we aren't careful.

You're right about the bastardized socialism. I work for a Kansas school district; I'm very intimate with Federal and state funding. I guess I meant a *more Socialist* bastardized Socialism. ;)

Communism is scary, because that's where the rights of the individual get mole-whacked. I, for one, while I don't need to be rich and own a lot of useless junk, still like owning a little property of my own now and then. But, I'm confident things will swing back to the right before it goes to that extreme. That's the good part of having a two-party system, I think.

We are heading towards some scary, uncertain, and exciting times, yeah?

"The free market system would work with regulations, but greedy lobbyists keep wanting Congress to throw them out."

Unfortunately, the one campaigning against corruption, pork-barrel spending, and lobbyists didn't get elected. :P

Hell, I'm a socialist and I don't even think he's very socialist. I think he does possess more elements of communism though. A lot of people unfortunately need to become more aware of the differences between socialism and communism, b/c from what I see, they think it's the same thing :/ And I am -not- communist >.> I do support small business though, I just think the government needs to control everything, and big business needs to be abolished completely. I have friends who own businesses, I think it's great, it's what the country's about, but it's gotten too far.

Yeah. Obama's made some statements that probably made McCarthy roll in his grave. I don't think he is being terribly serious about changing the economic structure of the United states into something else though. For one thing, I doubt anyone would actually let him. He's going to be under a hell of a lot of scrutiny, even if it's just because he's black. We've never had a black president before, so everyone is going to be watching him; playing close attention to his policies.

I think most of the shoutings of "socialist!" or "communist!" in Obama's direction are just after-effects of propaganda spun by the opposing party, especially since he hasn't actually done anything yet. Let's give him some time before we make any judgments.

And oh noes, ur a commie! :o Lol, just kidding. x3 I actually don't care what you personally believe, even if you were a communist. Everyone has the right to live by their own ideals. I personally don't agree with socialism because the moment you get someone irresponsible behind the wheel, the whole system ( ... )
