Carl Reichert (aka J. Hartung)(1836 Vienna - 1918 Graz)-the most renown austrian animalist painter .
He was a son of painter Heinrich Reichert and brother of Prague theater painter Heinrich Reichert .
He studied at the Drawing Academy in Graz under J.Tunner, E.Charles Moser and J.Kuwasseg, lived in Munich for a short time (1866-76), then continued his education in Rome under Ludwig Johann Passini and Anton Romako. Between 1869 and 1910 the artist lived in Vienna and then moved to Graz, where he died in 1918.
Since 1874 - Member of Vienna Artist Union "Künstlerhaus".
Carl Reichert is known for his genre paintings of animals and scenes of everyday urban life. Many of the animals he painted were commissioned portraits. He also painted stage sets and decorations for theatre houses and produced a series of engraving in Graz.
