There's a commercial for a new prescription allergy nasal spray called Veramyst. One of the disclaimers that appears at the bottom of the screen reads "The way Veramyst works is not entirely understood." Does that worry anyone besides me ( Read more... )

Pretty good. Did you get my last email (sent last week, if not the week before)?

Also...in the past few days, Nathan's output has increased considerably. He goes through 15-20 diapers in a 24-hr. period. However, this morning around 8:00 I put 25 diapers in the wash -- he went through all 25 since about 6:00 or 7:00 last night. (Most were wet, but he still has regular BMs.) Doesn't that seem like an awful lot? He is eating normally, I think, and is not acting unusual in any way.

It does sound like a lot of diapers, but perhaps since he is in cloth dipes, you are just being very vigilant. I wouldn't be concerned about it as long as the pooop is nice and yellow, doesn't appear dehydrtaed, and he keeps gaining weight, but of course I have no experience with babies who have undergone such extensive surgery, is this something the docs told you to watch out for? It sounds like he's just making up for lost time and eating tons, which is great!

Yeah, maybe you're right about the diapers -- Nathan always lets me know the moment he is wet...except at night when he sleeps so soundly that by the time I change him he soaking and poopy and gross! Overall, he is eating every 2 to 3 hours, with feeding sessions lasting anywhere from 10-45 minutes. His poop looks fine, he's just peeing a lot! And he definitely does not seem to be losing weight.

I wanted to get the pediatrician's opinion on the matter, too, so I called him earlier. He asked me a bunch of questions regarding frequency and duration of feedings, my fluid consumption, Nathan's appearance, etc. He believes there is nothing to be worried about...he suggested that since Nathan has been on the Digoxin for a while, it could mean his heart is getting stronger and his body is continuing to rid itself of accumulated fluids from the operation. We made an appointment for this Friday to check his weight gain and make sure everything is fine.

Glad to hear you both think it's ok!

That makes a lot of sense about the fluids draining out. And it's really great that he is feeding so well! You must be so relieved (and tired).

I also meant to say: don't be worried if all of a sudden his pooping slows down considerably, as long as he is peeing a lot. It just means his body needs to absorb more nutrients. Breastfed babies don't really get constipated, but he could go about a week without a BM and it's nothing to worry about!
