Poem- The Lighthouse

Jan 13, 2009 21:03

Another one from my English class chapbook. This is actually the chapbook poem I wrote first.

By itself, I'd have to rate it as "okay", but if you add the painting I did in watercolor of a lighthouse against a stormy background, it's pretty amazing.

The Lighthouse

Two rocks
Jutting straight up out of the sea
Stark black against the sky.

Two shells
Clinging to each other as life rafts
Defiant in the rocky sand.

Two footprints
Casting shadows inward from the rims
Imprinted clearly in the dunes.

One weathered lighthouse
Crumbling slowly on the cliff
Unnoticed, unrepaired.
