I don't agree. He wasn't "just quoting him"- he was quoting specific things out of context to be malbin panav barabim and to damage his job prospects.

He's also not really a public figure beyond being a successful blogger.
In any event, you say " it is obligatory to argue against him", and I agree. But there's a heaven-and-earth difference between arguing against him and being malbin panav barabim and saying spiteful lashon hara about him the way Plaut is doing. Also, I don't see that Plaut is presenting any "arguments", just defamation of character.
And I agree with a lot of what Dan Sieradski says and so do you- against the fence, towards accepting Hashem as the only authority, against the corrupt regime of Israel.
I wouldn't vote for Dan Sieradski, and I would campaign against him if he were running for office with the platform he has today, but there is again a huge difference between that and what Plaut is doing.
Also, Dan Sieradski is not the first- there were a number of students in Haifa U. a few years back whom he did this to, causing them to lose jobs, and their parents sued him and they were awarded substantial damages. Not that the Israeli courts are anything much to shout about, but I want to show that this is hardly an isolated incident, that this is Plaut's way of working, and that we should stand strongly against it as people who believe in bein adam lechavero mitzvot and in ahavat Israel.
