III - Voice - The Clock

Alright, I will admit it. The ticking has driven me to distraction. I am no longer capable of being alone in my own home. Spending time with others is not such a bad thing, man is a social creature by nature and myself more than some, but the prospect of sharing rooms with a person with whom I am not on intimate terms is not to my taste. Are there any other options? Animals, I have heard, do just as well, though I do not have much experience in caring for them aside from a certain rabbit of my acquaintance. Where would I find such a similar tractable, low-maintenance beast?

All the furor over fleas and ticks just shows how much society has progressed in terms of cleanliness, at the very least. Even the lowest among us can afford to bathe daily in hot water not drawn from a pump, with soaps that resemble the most expensive oils of Egypt for sale in any store. These pests are no longer an unavoidable plague, but rather a surprise. But then we once again reach the seemingly-unavoidable low quality of garb, the lack of cricket, balls, or other social events, the so-called "curses", and the distinct lack of anything resembling fine tobacco.

[sigh]

Thankfully, my rooms are now almost entirely furnished, though still lacking in some of the finer points. My books and prints, of course, are not so easily replaced. The view, however, is much improved upon the Albany as is the ample space, though the sheer size of the building itself is somewhat daunting. Is this all quite normal for all of you, buildings that reach up like fingers of the city to touch the sky? No one yearns for a peaceful country residence?

nothing to do, missing my rabbit, modern marvels, out of sullivans, aesthetic, play the game, the other shoe drops
