Icon Do It!

Sep 19, 2009 17:23

Arrrr! Shiver me timbers, 'tis Talk Like a Pirate Day! I plan to be bendin' elbows and chugging back grog at ruthven05's Pirate Parrrty tonight. As I said, that's the plan--migraines have been scrapin' the barnacles off my bow for the past fortnight, and today is no exception.

Okay, that's enough pirate-speak for now.

I saw this meme at hildigunnur's the other day, and I just couldn't resist.

1. Comment to this entry saying 'ICONS!' and I will pick 6 of your icons.
2. Make an entry in your own journal and talk about the icons I picked!

These are the icons she picked:

This little guy--a platypus looking peeved--is one of my all-time favourite icons. First off, platypuses rock. Second, he's multi-purpose. He's good for cute, he's great for pissed off, and he works pretty well for sarcastic, bemused, incredulous, and all of the "You've gotta be shitting me" emotions in-between.

I eventually added the caption--I think it's from an episode of "Highlander"--but my Photoshop skills are sadly lacking and I've never been fully satisfied with how it looks. This is why most of my icons don't have wording on them. I just can't get it to look the way it does in my head. :-/

These are the Minis from The Italian Job. The ORIGINAL The Italian Job. (The remake may have had a real plot, a villain, and emotional subtext, but it did NOT have Noel Coward or Michael Caine, and it did not blow the bloody doors off of anything.) I use this icon for car issues, occasional British stuff or movie-talk, and when I can't think of another one to use.

Ah, swing dancing! My late, lamented hobby and social scene. (The first nail in the coffin was a soul-sucking, up-at-4:30am job. The next was a happy relationship. Who wants to spend an evening with their arms around a stranger when there's a perfectly good boy to cuddle at home?) I created this icon for my dancing exploits and travels; these days, I bring it out mostly for comments on other people's dancing exploits.

This started life as an iPod parody and ended up as one of my most useful icons. I use it for self-deprecation and/or technology posts.

One of soupytwist's friends made this for me, after an image Katie posted in her journal. Newspapers in America aren't sold this way, but every other streetcorner in Britain has a little newspaper kiosk with the big news headlines scribbled on the front. Sometimes, there just aren't any big headlines. That's when they get creative (and you get signs like this one from the Manchester Evening News.) I don't use this icon as much as I could; not because I don't love it (which I do!), but because I spend less time complaining on LJ than I did in the mid-2000's.

This is my newest icon; I haven't even used it yet! After nearly 18 months of Wine Club--and the massive stockpile of wine we ended up with after our wedding/honeymoon--I thought it was appropriate to have a wine icon. I ended up with two: one white, one red. I much prefer white wine, but red wine photographs better. (Face it, this icon is a lot cooler than my white wine one.)

While I'm on the subject, I've decided I'd like to start keeping a log of the wines we drink. I don't know how well this will work out, given that my wine notes degrade over the course of an evening from "Good floral bouquet with a strong finish," to "*hic* Tastes like wine!" We'll see how it goes.

For now, though, let's concentrate on making the rum go away.

wine, good times, geekery, pics
