In the aftermath of a jail fight (yesterday, Kaitlyn was not hurt)
Kaitlyn was reminded of something they taught her at sheriff academy -
they say that the number one goal for a deputy on-the-job is "make sure you go home at the end of the day." Not: get your guy. Not: close the case. Not: control the criminals...
"Make sure you go home at the end of the day"
So, anyway... usually when Kaitlyn is walking out the door to work everyday, I say a couple things - "phone, wallet, walkie?" to make sure she's got her phone, her wallet, and her radio & battery pack. I also typically yell after her, as she's walking down the sidewalk, "Try not to kill anyone!"
Today (and perhaps from now on) - I yelled, "what's the number one goal?"
(to which Kaitlyn, of course, replied, "Kill someone!")
LOL
It's an unusual life. But it's ours. And we like it.
