I've only got one more day of hell, and I still haven't started my summer reading. I don't get it though, if you want to study music for the rest of your life, why must you suffer through other courses? Anyways, I've already rounded up my clothes, pack my backpack, rounded up my music stuff, and all I need now is to charge my cell and I'm off to school. For the rest of the year, I'll be living on powerbars for the sake of saving my soul by not eating school lunches. If I lived off of them during GBYSO camp, I can live off of them again.
Once School starts, there will be a Tomasetti in each grade in the HS. My family is at the point where hearing the phrase "Are you related to (insert first name here) Tomasetti" is now part of our daily schedual. It's kinda sad. Oh well
GBYSO starts in a few weeks and I need to practice for the exams as well. Chamber music sheets should be comming in the mail, and I want them soon. I need to put down that I want to be in a group with another flutist who's able to play the "Rigoletto Fantasy" by Doppler. Even though it's kinda cheesy, it's still really hard. I'm hoping to be paired up with a senior orchestra flutist cause I'm not sure if any of the repertory people can do it. I'm hoping it will be either Emi or Nick J. If we can manage that, all we need is a pianist and we're all good to go.
Speaking about GBYSO, music is going good. The Sleeping Beauty is such a beautiful piece where intonation is really a key factor. But theres a lot of solos for me and a lot of duets for Nick and I (I'm principal and he's second). Our section coach, Susan Gall, said that we sound exeptional together, like we were a perfect duet! That I like the most. Nick F. and I still have our conversations with the section on where to breath, how to phrase what and other stuff like that. The shosti sounds cool as well. I play piccolo on it and I've been practicing on my new piccolo (you can read about it in another previous entry of mine) and it's soo great. I just need to work with the rest of the flute section on it to get my intonation corrected, since Nick F. plays 1st assitant on it and I end up tuning to him. I can't wait till we play the rest of the symphony.
Our woodwind section is also a hoot and half. The oboes can't seem to stop laughing, which cause me to laugh with them and get in on their jokes too, the clarinets are super nice, the flutes just plain rock, and the bassoons have their quirky moments, but they're still fun. It's like our own little family. I love GBYSO rep woodwinds!
I'm glad that I'm not in senior orchestra, for one reason. It's just that the majority of the senior orchestra seems to look down upon the rep orchestra in that sorta "I'm in senior, go away, your not as good as us so leave now!" kinda attitude. It's sad really. We should all just be friends and such, and help one another out. My god.
