hills

So I watched the Riverbend fireworks tonight. But not at Riverbend. I was on this little grassy hill/cliff/wall/ampitheater overlooking the river and Frazier Avenue. It was probably the worst Riverbend fireworks display, but the best view I've ever had. Even without the fireworks, just sitting there would have been cool. While I was sitting around that spot I was thinking about how Chattanooga is pretty low on my list of "prefered places to be", but how it's pretty cool that the city is kind of nestled in between mountains and hills and stuff and still is a "city". If you look at Atlanta or New York or something it's all buildings and roads, but here there are mountains and trees. It's a real cool place to be, not Chattanoga, but the hill where I watched the Fireworks. After the fireworks I had a fun time yelling "Get er Done" and listening to the responses I got, most often another "Get Er DONE!!!!" or the frat boy "WOOOO!!!!". On a front porch.

Lately I've been thinking alot about how cool it will be to move out after next year, and up to Boston. I'm looking forward to having my own place of residence. I think there is a certain amount of stress from the watchful eye of your parents that goes away kind of, and get's replaced with the stress of making rent and eating. And there is nothing wrong with following your parents rules or breaking them, either one is cool, but not having to worry about what the rules is the preffered lifestyle. And having an apartment or house of my own would be cool because I would have total control over the atmosphere. The way it looked, sounded, smelled, felt...like a cave or a nest of sorts. Not to hide from the world or anything, but to serve as home base for creating and learning and living and etc...

That's kind of like the hill I sat on. Looking out over the lack of city that is Chattanooga, I was trying to pay attention to the general atmosphere of different areas of the city and the people that inhabit them. I think general, Chattanoogans and most people in general don't try hard enough to create interesting or "important" mini-worlds revolving around themselves, both the atmosphere in which they control how they live and themselves who they're trying to stay alive. Think about it. If you think about it, houses or apartments are just places where we live. Would you rather create an environment that will be viewed by others as comfortable or prestigous or would you rather create an environment where you and whatever you do will thrive and be most smoothly created?

All of these thoughts from a lack of skyline?

Anyone who guesses what I was doing before I wrote this gets a laugh and a smile as a reward.

"The emotional highs and lows of doing this are stressful, but I would rather be living those peaks and valleys than living a straight line."
