These are photos from my mini-trip. :D
The Houghton Bridge. This is the only bridge across the channel that cuts though the Keweenaw, technically making it an island. It's a lift bridge. My grandfather also told me that there's a lower deck for trains, but there's no more passenger service to Houghton--or anywhere nearby, I think.
The bridge again--this time with the sillouette of Qunicy Mine in the background. Quincy is probably the most definable thing about this hillside. It used to be rust-red, before they made it into a museum, and a much spookier sight.
This boat has a name, but I can't remember it right now. It's the Isle Royal ferry from Houghton. It was docked the night we stayed there.
Now we're in the harbor, looking out at the lake from the deck. This is when we first got there. It was very windy, coming off the land. I had a chat with the lighthouse volunteer, whose face I knew, but I honest-to-god can't remember who she is or how I know her. ^^; I think she runs the Shoreline Motel.
I have tons of lighthouse pictures, but none with my superzoom. This makes a nice picture.
An artsy photo. I'm on the middle-beach at this point, avoiding some geese.
This is after the service. The waves have picked up and the lake has changed color, but it's still very green because it is so shallow.
Here is the storm that passed through while we were in the church. It's hovering over Copper Harbor now, and probably has little intention of moving.
