We left Thursday morning to attend a Friday, July 4 wedding in Napa, at the Silverado Resort. No traffic at all, we made it there in 6.5 hours.
Thursday: Justin worked on his cel (hands-free!) all the way up to Napa. He couldn't really have the day "off" given they're in time-crunch mode nearing the end of his project. I slept almost the whole way there. We check in, change to bathing suits, then spend the afternoon poolside, swimming, reading, drinking margaritas, tanning. Had a really nice dinner at the hotel's Grill. Watched movies back in our room. Watched fireworks on the balcony.
Friday: Played tennis, had breakfast, had to do some emergency outlet shopping (forgot to pack the sweater that went with my dress, which then became real shopping), hit the HaGafen Winery (SO GOOD!), had a wonderful lunch at a side of the road sandwich place, and came back and took a nap. Went to the wedding, which was small, intimate, lovely, with an open bar, set up on the golf course. The other people aside from Rob and Diana who sat at our table were techie/artsy types (graphics, CGI, ad agency, etc)who graduated with the groom, and were all trashed by the time dinner began. Just as well, bunch of crazies. Italian buffet, amazing food, dessert bar, take-home-candy bar, and we left before the party was really over, to get some alone time and veg out. We haven't seen the bride in years, and didn't know anyone else but R and D and a couple other people, so really, it was more like a wine country vacation for me and J, with a wedding thrown in for good measure.
Saturday: Checked out and spent the day with the Pearces, which was much fun. They belong to a community pool so we packed wine, cheese, salami, and hung out there all afternoon. They are good friends, and they have great kids. I was a little sad that our boys weren't there to play with their godsiblings, but glad for the bit of rest I had, and glad I got a girl-fix hanging out with 4 year old Maya the whole time.
Sunday: Leisurely drive back home. My mom ended up watching the kids herself because my dad has shingles (discovered while he was giving the kids a bath). My sister and her bf took over kid duty while my mom took my dad to the ER. He wasn't allowed to be around people that haven't had the chicken pox yet. But, mom took the kids to see Wall*e, which they mostly loved though Edward cried when Wall*e was in danger (haven't seen it myself, so I don't know what that's about). The kids missed us, we missed them, but fun was had by all.
The End.
(Oh, if you like strange, twisted movies, Leolo is fun (on Netflix). Vantage Point is super disappointing, and Wimbledon (the real tennis game, not the movie) was fantastic!!)
